Psychotherapy

“How bold one gets when one is sure of being loved.”
– Sigmund Freud

My approach to psychotherapy

I have an integrative approach to psychotherapy, drawing on a variety of interventions, styles, and philosophies. I endeavour to meet clients where they are at, rather than push a particular worldview or textbook approach. Psychotherapy is a unique and individual experience.

Fundamentally, I am grounded in a depth understanding of a person, born out of the classic analytic schools of Sigmund Freud, Carl Jung, and the Object Relations theorists.

Where practical, I draw from a cognitive behavioural toolbox, including elements of mindfulness and meditation, trauma-focused therapyAcceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT).

Most importantly, as the research affirms, successful therapy depends on a non-judgmental, empathic, safe, and authentic therapeutic relationship. That is what I strive to cultivate.

We are all human, I am here as a confidant and facilitator to explore and face the challenges of being alive.

“People are just as wonderful as sunsets if you let them be. When I look at a sunset, I don’t find myself saying, ‘Soften the orange a bit on the right hand corner.’ I don’t try to control a sunset. I watch with awe as it unfolds.”
– Carl Rogers

How it works

You may find that even one session is enough to relieve something that you have been carrying for a long time. Or, you may find that therapy opens you up to an exploration of yourself that you wish to continue into the long-term.

“Transformations require that we let go of familiar ways of doing things, without yet knowing what we will do next.”
– Sheldon B. Kopp

Fees & policies

This is a cash practice. Accounts are payable after each individual session. I will email an invoice following the session. Payment can be in physical currency or via EFT. Upon payment being received, a paid receipt will be sent to you that can be used to claim back from your medical aid.

A 24 hour cancellation policy is in place. Appointments cancelled less than 24 hours in advance are charged for.

In some cases, PMBs (prescribed minimum benefits) can be applied for. This requires that the client fits certain diagnostic criteria. Be aware that this diagnosis would then be made available to your medical aid and form part of your health record.
